Common name in CSR generation

In Csr generation is there any specific format for common name?
Can we give branch code or branch shortname for that

you can put any unique Identifier ( for exapmle we are puting Server Serial No )

myself I put serial no, but in the begining I put unique name of my customer, it was accepted.
